Thondiyar Estate is a legacy of spice cultivation wrapped in the calming landscape of Kottapparambil Plantation, Thekkady. Encircled by lush forests and sharing a border with the renowned Periyar Tiger Reserve, Thondiyar Estate provides an oasis of peace where nature thrives. Since our resort shares a border with the Periyar Tiger Reserve, visitors can spot wildlife, including Tigers, Leopards, Bears, Bison, Sambar Deer, and Malabar Giant Squirrels. Also, guests can spot the footprints of these animals across our estate.
Our 90-acre estate is a peaceful haven filled with the inviting smell of spices. The Legacy
Our Story
Established in 1958 by Kochitti Pothan, a visionary planter from Kottayam, our plantation has evolved from humble beginnings to a renowned spice cultivation hub. Realizing the enormous potential of spices, Kochitti Pothan set out on a mission to locate ideal sites for spice plantations. This resulted in the acquisition of the Eastern Highrange Company Ltd from the British, expanding it from a firewood estate and factory into a successful spice haven. Over time, we have expanded our farms to cultivate the highest quality spices including cardamom, coffee, black pepper, and clove. Today, the fourth generation of our family upholds this rich heritage by preserving the estate’s legacy and its particular climate, which is ideal for spice farming.
